ABOUT "BERIGORA FARM"
Our property, “Berigora” near Grafton in the Clarence Valley, NSW, is named after the aboriginal word for the brown falcon (the first bird we saw on the property).
“Berigora” is 66 ha of gently undulating country, a mixture of native pasture and bushland.
Early last century the property was a dairy farm but all that now remains from this time is the rough stone floor of the dairy building and a few old panels of post and rail fencing. The property was used for grazing for many years, had no pasture improvement carried out, no fertiliser used and was vacant for 7 years before we purchased it in 1995 – all of which were bonuses for us when searching for a property to farm organically.
We have an abundance of wildlife (including the threatened Glossy Black cockatoo), a div- erse range of plant life including many beautiful trees and a 4 ha seasonal wetland which has been allowed to regenerate as wildlife habitat. Altogether “Berigora” has 20 ha of natural bushland under conservation agreement – to be protected for all time as wildlife habitat.
The organic growing area is in the centre of the property, well away from the danger of toxic run-off or spray drift from neighbouring properties.
Berigora Farm aims to produce high quality produce both for direct sale and for value add- ing our own range of natural products.
